Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4 that he was “troubled on every
side…perplexed…persecuted…cast down…(so) that the abundant grace might
through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God”
Have you ever wondered how he could endure so much yet still focus on
abundant grace, thanksgiving, and God’s glory? This week’s events have us
pondering some of these things. And like Paul, we are “NOT distressed…NOT in
despair… NOT forsaken…NOT destroyed”.
Events in Northern Mali have taken a serious turn prompting evacuation of
our colleagues Rich and Anna Marshall from the same area where we used to
be. Praise God for their safe arrival here yesterday. Please pray for white
hostages taken (not missionaries) and their families back home, especially
of the man who lost his life while refusing to cooperate. Please pray as
security forces counter this growing problem. Please pray for the
implications on missionary work.
Other events give us great happiness :
1) Last week’s five-day evangelistic trip by RSF boat near Niafunke was a
success. Here is a report from Pastor David: --- Four of the five villages
were open to the gospel. Several hundred villagers experienced the testimony
of African believers along with video projections and audio broadcasting. A
leader in each village was presented with a Saber gospel player. Dan has
spoken by phone to some of them who say there is a lot of interest as the
little black box heralds stories of salvation beginning in Genesis. The team
discovered a Christian family in one village, very pleased to make contact.
In another place, a Christian school teacher took cassettes to distribute in
at least three villages.
2) We saw Pastor Ben on Sunday. His health has improved.
3) Our Sunday trip to the villages was from sunup to sundown. A rep from
each of the three village churches accompanied Dan to N’Gouraba. Attendance
has doubled with 20 adults and LOTS of children. Spirits are high as three
local believers spoke of great joy in the prospect of an established church
there.
4) David Dicko (handicap) is here safely for a periodic visit. (We advise
him NOT to hitch hike, but he did anyway :>()
Troubled but thankful, Dan and Marsha
