Dear Friends at West Lebanon Baptist Church,

Thank you for the gift received in Orlando November 9. I am grateful for you folks praying for me and for the Bakairi.

My cataract surgeries went well, with no pain or infection. In the second one, on the left eye, the lens was harder than the surgeon had anticipated. He had to use more ultra-sound to break it up than on the right eye, resulting in the cornea swelling so I had no sight in that eye for about 4 days, which was a little scary. Three weeks later I got my new glasses.

I received word yesterday that the Bakairi New Testaments should be arriving in Brazil February 15th. The Bible Society will be doing the paper-work for liberating the shipment and sending the books on to Cuiabá. As soon as they arrive I’ll set the date for the dedication, after talking to the Bakairi. We need to allow time for those coming from outside Brazil to get tourist visas and tickets. If the books are here by the end of March, the dedication could well be sometime during the last two weeks in June. Otherwise it will probably be mid-August. July is the mid-year vacation month and ticket prices are much higher then, but because it is vacation, the school in Painkum would be available for housing any who would be over-nighting there. Please pray for the scheduling of the New Testament dedication and taking care of all the details involved.

I plan to go to Painkum the end of February. The main reason, besides discussing the dedication, is to do the final revision of Genesis, which has been consultant-checked and read through and corrected already by several Bakairi. I have printed 9 copies of Genesis, but don’t know if I’ll work with that many people while there. It may be only with Marinete, her daughter Jasilene who has graduated from the South American Mission Indian Bible School, and Marceni with whom I went through the whole New Testament. Please pray that the right ones will be available to do this final revision. I’ll then make copies to be available at the NT dedication.

This will probably be my last working visit to the village, although I may have to go again after the dedication to dispose of my things there. I have been working on the Bakairi dictionary and have a long ways to go to find illustrative sentences for each entry. I plan to give an electronic copy to the Bakairi and let them take it from whatever point it is when I leave.

As soon as possible after the dedication I’ll be disposing of my things in Cuiabá. I plan to see if my landlady would like me to leave all or some of my furniture and household things so she could rent it furnished. Otherwise I’ll be giving things to the people in the church here. Please pray for the wise use of time during these final months in Brazil.

Praise the Lord:

1. for the successful cataract surgeries

2. for the huge help and encouragement Sam and Wanda Miller, my support team here, are to me

3. for the word that the Bakairi NT is printed and soon will be on its way to Brazil.

Pray for

1. the safe shipment of the New Testaments and their liberation from customs

2. for finding good illustrative sentences for Bakairi dictionary entries that lack them

3. for the plans for the New Testament dedication, especially setting a date

4. for the final revision of Genesis in the village with the Bakairi

In Christ,

Betty Camp
